Fasting the 10th of Muharram

Print

In shaa' Allaah the 10th of Muharram 1439H will be on Saturday 30th September 2017. Hence, it is recommended to fast on Friday 29th September (Taasu'aa) and Saturday 30th ('Aashooraa), corresponding to the 9th and 10th Muharram.

In the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (1865) from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Ashooraa’. He said, "What is this?" They said, "This is a good day, this is the day when Allaah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy and Moosa fasted on this day." He said, "We are closer to Moosa than you." So he fasted on this day and told the people to fast.

Also, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Fasting the day of ‘Arafah I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it, and fasting the day of ‘Ashooraa’ I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it."

Eid al-Adhaa Prayers 2017

al-Hamdu lillaah, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Friday 1st September 2017 in shaa' Allaah.

Eid Mubaarak - taqabbal Allaah minnaa wa minkum! May Allaah accept our good deeds and yours.

Eid Prayers at the Masjid will be at :

7:00 am - Ustadh Abu Abdullah Yunus
8:30 am - Ustadh Abu Haneefah
10:00 am - Hafiz Usman

We ask Allaah 'azza wa jall to accept our good deeds from the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah, which many scholars regard to be the best 10 days of the year. A useful guide to these blessed Ten Days can be found at http://www.islam-qa.com/en/ref/books/66#

On the day of Eid, please park your cars sensibly, or use public transport. Please arrive and leave calmly, and ensure neighbours of the masjid are not disturbed.

We have spoken to the council and in shaa' Allaah there will be some relaxation of parking restrictions on Eid day on the roads around the masjid. This means that you can use the residents parking bays in the side streets and the parking bays on the High Road. You cannot park on the yellow lines on the High Road after 7am. Note that the car park at the local shopping centre could also be used.

However, please do not park irresponsibly or dangerously, else you will still get a ticket. The Masjid cannot take any responsibility in such an event.

jazaakum Allaah khaira.

Ten days of Dhu-l-Hijjah

Print

The first 10 days of Dhu-l-Hijjah are the best ten days of the year. Dhu-l-Hijjah starts on Wednesday 23rd August 2017. The Day of Arafah will be Thursday 31st August and Eid will be Friday 1st September 2017.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah than these ten days.”

From Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no deed that is better before Allaah or more greatly rewarded than a good deed done in the (first) ten days of al-Adha.”

These texts and others indicate that these ten days are better than all other days of the year, with no exception, even the last ten days of Ramadaan. But the last ten nights of Ramadaan are better than the first ten nights of Dhu’l-Hijjah, because they include Laylat al-Qadr, which is better than a thousand months.

Making the Sacrifice (Udhhiya or Qurbani) is strongly recommended for the head of each household. The one who intends to do so should refrain from cutting their nails or hair during these ten days until after the eid prayer and when then sacrifice has been made.

Fasting the Day of Arafah - the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah - is an expiation for the minor sins of the previous year and for the following year, so every effort should be made to fast this day.
